More Art in Millerton by local Artist

More Art in Millerton

Where and When: At the Library
75 Main Street, Millerton, NY 12546

June 10 through July 10, 2009
The Letters and Thoughts Collection is an anthology of work by artist Erika Larskaya. It is an exploration of language, a subject which has always fascinated her as a speaker of two active languages. She has always found it a source of inspiration that people can speak a language but others may not understand. It can be a game of deception, a linguistic hide and seek. Erika's motivation for the collection is her fascination with the way we exchange information and opinions. She uses text, letters, newsprint, and collage to communicate with the audience without the need for speech.

About the Artist

Erika Larskaya has been trained as an interior designer and has spent many years experimenting with painting techniques both alone and through classes. She now uses her skills to create custom paintings to match interiors and also to produce murals designed to her clients' specifications. She recently completed a decorative mural for a newly opened hair salon/barbershop, "Iconic Hair" in Rhinebeck.

Erika has always been an artist but only started to work seriously a few years ago. She now accepts selective instructions, ensuring that she is able to stay authentic to herself. She loves the feeling of having completed a piece of work that embodies feelings and emotions. Erika is inspired by nature and people. She is also influenced by great artists of the past including Turner, Picasso, Monet, and Whistler; as well as contemporaries such as Jeff Roland, Alexander Yakovlev, and Sonia Del Signore.

Erika was born and raised in Russia and uses the experiences of her life to enrich her imagination and vision as a artist. She has been living in the Hudson Valley for the last ten years and in Millerton for the last six. Erika is a full-time mother and artist

Come to Millerton NY It's a real HOOT !!!

Everyone who visits Millerton goes Home with a new friend.

January 20, 2009 We celebrate a new President of the US

Today Jan 20,2009 we celebrate a new beginning in this Country-a new hope a new beginning- many of us in the Country have been life time Republicans- not unusual at all- but tomorrow we all recognize a change that MUST change the direction we are headed as a Nation. We are pleased to have Barack Obama represent us as our 44th President of this United States of America. Not corney at all to be proud of a person elected and believed in a way we have not seen for many many years- I am here to give you my support and best wishes as this Nation needs your leadership and compassion.

Good Luck Mr. President- stay well and God Bless America !!

What has happened to Millertonny.com

Whats up with our towns website-www.Millertonny.com
Seems that there is very little representation from all our fine businesses- perhaps those in charge have dropped the ball.
Take a look at the site and send in your comments to this blog and we will get it to those in charge- seems there are many business that don't even have a photo of their business when they certainly have paid for it. Come on folks we can do a lot better and not favor one over others- we are an open community with great people and super small businesses. This economy requires we do all we can to help one another- lets get to it.
Looking for comments that can cure the problem-perhaps a web site creator who would like to help our community.

Keep your comments coming.
