The Letters and Thoughts Collection is an anthology of work by artist Erika Larskaya. It is an exploration of language, a subject which has always fascinated her as a speaker of two active languages. She has always found it a source of inspiration that people can speak a language but others may not understand. It can be a game of deception, a linguistic hide and seek. Erika's motivation for the collection is her fascination with the way we exchange information and opinions. She uses text, letters, newsprint, and collage to communicate with the audience without the need for speech.
About the Artist
Erika Larskaya has been trained as an interior designer and has spent many years experimenting with painting techniques both alone and through classes. She now uses her skills to create custom paintings to match interiors and also to produce murals designed to her clients' specifications. She recently completed a decorative mural for a newly opened hair salon/barbershop, "Iconic Hair" in Rhinebeck.
Erika has always been an artist but only started to work seriously a few years ago. She now accepts selective instructions, ensuring that she is able to stay authentic to herself. She loves the feeling of having completed a piece of work that embodies feelings and emotions. Erika is inspired by nature and people. She is also influenced by great artists of the past including Turner, Picasso, Monet, and Whistler; as well as contemporaries such as Jeff Roland, Alexander Yakovlev, and Sonia Del Signore.
Erika was born and raised in Russia and uses the experiences of her life to enrich her imagination and vision as a artist. She has been living in the Hudson Valley for the last ten years and in Millerton for the last six. Erika is a full-time mother and artist
