Thanks for responding Chitchat. To be honest, I was not aware of the other Millerton web site. In fact, interestingly enough, when you Google Millerton, NY the millertonny.com web site is prominently displayed thus, I was unaware of the other site. I agree with you. For only $40, if I were a small shop owner, I choose to spend my dollars where the search engines point which is clearly Millertonny.com :-)

The EnjoyMillerton.com website is run by the Millerton Business Group. The $365 was the cost for a business to join the group, which included being on the website as well as paying for advertising, a rack card and distribution and to cover the cost of events such as "Fall for Art" that happened in October. As EnjoyMillerton.com was a website design that started from scratch last April, the money raised last year paid for the website, but there wasn't enough left to do any Search Engine Optimization. This year, since the website is done, more money will be spent to get EnjoyMillerton.com to the top of a search engine result list as well as more advertising promoting the village, its events and the website.
SEO is free to all. Money is not needed to bring the google ranking up.
Although there may be things you can do for free to boost your ranking, it still takes someone time to do it. Time=money. Are you offering to set it up yourself?
